The coastal city-state of Andratha was the heart of trade and culture of its region. It was prized for many of its achievements, however none so great as the arena. Many came from across the realm and the world to fight and seek fame, conquest and glory. The city was also known for capturing, raising and breeding many terrifying creatures to fight in the pits. This is where Malysura's story began.
Malysura was born a nameless being. She was an abomination of nature whose very existence relied on magic and maliciousness. She was the product of two very different breeds of dragon that would not willingly mate and could not normally produce viable offspring, however with the interference of powerful magic, her egg somehow managed to survive and hatch. A great deal of gold went into her creation, and her destiny lay in the fighting pits of the arena. The dragon never saw her parents, only humans from the very beginning, and her training in ferocity began immediately following her emergence from her egg.
Malysura was not spared the pain and fear of her fate while young and growing. Early on, the young dragon was matched against similarly sized predators to hone her fighting instinct and instill the understanding that losing meant death. She fought wolves, bears, giant snakes, and began to understand that she had to be the apex predator. Without any contact or socialization with other dragons, she didn't know what she was, only that she was greater than those she killed. Her human handlers were the only ones spared her killing behaviors, and only because they constantly bound her and struck her to reinforce their dominance. From day one, Malysura was crafted into a beast of insatiable hatred.
As Malysura grew, so did her opponents become more fearsome and dangerous. She went from fighting lowly beasts to terrifying monsters that thrilled the crowds. She learned to breathe fire and ash, and how to use her wings to leap, glide and outmaneuver her foes. Her quills and scales constantly broke and regrew, scars from years of torment marring her form. She was a crowd favorite and a great deal of wealth surrounded her matches, but she knew nothing of all that. All she knew was that when she emerged from the darkness of her pit and finally basked in the warming light of the sun, her life was on the line.
